Fading Generator Test

Many years ago I bought a used " Rayleigh Fading Generator " brand JRC .
Today I have decided to test it and worked perfectly .
The video shows the fading generated with a frequency of 5 Hz within the band 20-220 MHz .
The marker is at 100 MHz .
The deepest fading was found to be -30dB respect to the minimum attenuation ( 20 dB) .
The fading statistical distribution was Rayleigh with a factor of correlation of 1 .

Alcuni anni fa comprai usato un generatore di Fading di Rayleigh marca JRC senza mai provarlo .

Oggi l'ho provato e funziona perfettamente .

Il video mostra il fading generato alla frequenza di ripetizione di 5 Hz nella banda 20-220 MHz .

Il marker e' a 100 MHz .

Il massimo fading e' di 30dB rispetto al minimo valore di attenuazione che e' pari a 20dB.

La distribuzione statistica del fading e' di Rayleigh con un fattore di correlazione pari a 1 .

Tom Taylor è scomparso

Caro amico FRS,

Con grande tristezza riportiamo la morte del fondatore della European Music Radio e della leggenda delle onde corte Tom Taylor, a molti anche conosciuti come Barry Stephens.

Per molti appassionati di radio senza SW dedicati, E.M.R. era la stazione alla fine degli anni '70 e nel 1980. A partire dal 1980 E.M.R. e FRS divenne stazioni sorelle.

Entro pochi giorni un memoriale con alcuni ricordi personali sarà inserito nel sito FRS. Vi informeremo via mail quando sarà on-line.

Tutti noi di FRS siamo scioccati dalla morte di Tom. In effetti era una leggenda sulle onde corte. Che riposi in pace.

Dear FRS Friend,

With great sadness we report the death of European Music Radio's founder and short wave legend Tom Taylor, to many also known as Barry Stephens.

For many dedicated SW free radio enthusiasts, E.M.R. was thé station in the late 1970s and 1980. As from 1980 onwards E.M.R. and FRS became sister stations. 

Within a few days a Memorial with some personal memories will be put on the FRS site. We will inform you via mail when it will be on-line.

All of us at FRS are shocked by Tom's death. He indeed was a short wave legend. May he rest in peace.

Hello There from IRRS/NEXUS-IBA in Milan,

We are back after a while, with some very sad news. Tom Taylor, also known as

Barry Stephens, former founder of European Music Radio, and passionate Shortwave

radio enthusiast heard many times over our station, has died.

We exchanged emails last November with Tom, and he wrote me about his illness.

Tom was extremely eager to return to the air in 2018. I thought that these days

he would be able to recover quickly. However, I was wrong.

I am loosing a very good friend and a passionate radio lover alike. We are all going to miss him greatly at NEXUS.

We scheduled the last EMR program that Tom sent to us for a special broadcast

over the next weekend on:

i.) Friday, Feb 2, 2018

1900-2000 UTC on 7290 kHz (150 kW to EU) and 846 kHz MW

ii.) Saturday, Feb 3, 2018

0900-1000 UTC on 9510 kHz (150 kW to EU)

La Sezione ARI di Firenze, organizza Florence RadioFest 2018, ottava edizione Mercatino Libero Scambio Radioamatoriale, un evento dedicato esclusivamente ai Radioamatori, dove privati ed aziende esporranno radio, antenne ed accessori nuovi ed usati.

Come ogni anno ormai, avremo una rappresentanza del Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico che attraverso i funzionari presenti risponderà a domande, ed a cui potranno essere richieste le certificazioni direttamente in loco.

Visto il grande successo dello scorso anno, verrà nuovamente offerto il servizio gratuito di Misure di Radio Frequenza. Un banco con strumenti di misura di vario tipo sarà a disposizione di quanti vorranno misurare proprie attrezzature, progetti o realizzazioni. Sempre in questa area sarà disponibile il consueto Banco Prova Apparati.

Come Arrivare
Il Palazzo delle Esposizioni di Empoli è facilmente raggiungibile dalla Superstrada Firenze Pisa Livorno, che si prende dalla uscita Scandicci dell'Autostrada A1. La mostra è anche facilmente raggiungibile in Treno, scendendo alla stazione di Empoli. Un ampio parcheggio gratuito sul retro del palazzetto sarà a disposizione dei visitatori. Parte il recupero della Stazione Radio Marconi di Coltano

Coltano: "Un intervento atteso da tempo", ha detto al telefono Elettra Marconi, grazie a un investimento del Comune che ha ricevuto il bene in concessione dal Demanio per due anni.

PISA. Primo passo per la rinascita della Stazione Marconi di Coltano: «Il Demanio, dopo anni di richieste, l’ha data in concessione per due anni al Comune di Pisa – spiega l’assessore ai lavori pubblici del Comune di Pisa Andrea Serfogli - così oggi, lunedì 29 gennaio, è partito un primo intervento per la bonifica e messa in sicurezza con un investimento di 47mila euro».

I lavori sono eseguiti da Euroambiente, la ditta che cura il global del verde del Comune di Pisa. Sarà così possibile per i tecnici (architetti, geometri, ingegneri) entrare nel monumento, attualmente estremamente pericolante, e fare i rilievi per progettare in maniera più dettagliata il restauro. Secondo una prima stima servono 2,5 milioni di euro per il recupero: un milione lo mette il Comune, la parte restante è stata promessa dalla Regione. Servirà inoltre il passaggio definitivo del bene al Comune.

Gioia e soddisfazione anhe da parte di Elettra Marconi, che è intervenuta telefonicamente alla conferenza stampa. «Un intervento atteso da tanto tempo, oggi finalmente un primo passo nella direzione del recupero».

ISOFREQUENCY IN FM ( SFN - Single Frequency Networks ) - The video of a test

This subject excites the curiosity and interest of FM Broadcasting technicians and managers starting about forty years ago.
In my life, I have received more than a thousand times this simple question: "Does it work or does it not work?"
A minimally serious answer could require entire volumes and would bore or confuse nearly everybody...

The only possibility for a simple and easy understandable answer is making a practical audio-video example, on the basis of what has been done to show the quality difference between an analog FM broadcasting in Mono and Stereo :

Since there are a myriad of parameters that can affect the results of the reception of two FM transmitter sites under conditions of: "Isofrequency YES - Isofrequency NO", I chose to publish the qualitative comparison in this humble report : the most simple limit case (obviously there were a myriad of others with variable parameters) that was simulated in a laboratory session from the customer (Radio Maria)with equipment produced by Elenos :

A) Monophonic emission
B) Stationary reception
C) Same signal amplitude of the two transmitters at the receiver (Protection ratio = 0dB)
D) High signal at the receiver input (-50dBm)
E) Absence of interference from other signals
C) Contemporary arrival of the signals from the two transmitters to the receiver (Same time of arrival -TOA)
D) Equal index of modulation of the transmitters (Isomodulation)
E) Frequency difference between the transmitters: 0.1 Hz (360 ° every 10 seconds)
The test: "Isofrequency YES / Isofrequency NO" was performed by disconnecting one of the two transmitters at the 22nd second of the video (a few seconds before the end).

The video confirms the ITU thesis exposed at page 21 :

It may be noted that in the most favorable case (monophonic mode, 2 µs time delay) the protection ratio is very close to 0 dB using synchronized transmitters 

and that the equipment used in the tests achieve this result.

Cosenza, il ponte di Calatrava inaugurazione

Un’opera imponente, alta 104 metri e intitolata a San Francesco di Paola, patrono della Calabria. 

COSENZA - E’ una delle opere più importanti costruite nel Meridione d’Italia, negli ultimi anni. Il ponte che unisce le due sponde del fiume Crati, a Cosenza, porta la firma del maestro Santiago Calatrava ed è intitolato a San Francesco di Paola. Ha una lunga storia la sua realizzazione. L’idea di superare le acque del Crati e unire il quartiere Gergeri a via Popilia è venuta, diciotto anni fa, a Giacomo Mancini, all’epoca sindaco della città dei Bruzi. 

Il "Vecchio Leone" affidò il progetto all’architetto-ingegnere-scultore spagnolo che pensò ad un ponte <<ad arpa>> sostenuto da un pilone alto 104 metri, inclinato di 52 gradi e lungo 130 metri, sorretto da una infinità di cavi, come fossero appunto corde di un’arpa.

L’inaugurazione con uno straordinario spettacolo di fuochi, musiche e danze. "E’ un ponte che ha uno sguardo al futuro" dice Mario Occhiuto, sindaco di Cosenza.
