PRINTED IN 1928 IN ORADEA TO INTRODUCE RADIO
The first radio show in
Romania with broadcast content, with the current significance of the term, took
place on November 1, 1928.
In the same time, the construction of a truly
professional transmitter was started by Marconi with the financing of the Royal
Family of Romania. I did not manage to find any supporting photos, but the
press of the time writes that Marconi was in Romania at the installation works.
The power delivered to the antenna, with the carrier
unmodulated, is 150kW feeding into the antenna a radiofrequency current of
106A. The antenna is supported by 2 metal triangular section towers with a height
of 253m weighing 140t each, insulated from the ground with 7 cylinders of
porcelain. The transmitter had linear
push-pull amplifiers and the modulation was series type with constant voltage.
THE BOOK
In the same year appears in Oradea,
the city where I live in Romania, a book that grants an entire chapter to
introduce the newly appeared radio. Just found in the library of my great-grandmother
this book, signed and dated on the first
page.
Based on the details my great-grandfather built a receiver with crystal detection and then a single tube receiver. They were the first receivers I played with as a child. There is high probability to found them in the attic of the very old family house.
