Remote monitoring MW and SW in Papua N.G.

The project to build a SW transmitter in Papua New Guinea encountered unexpected difficulties related to updated databases with already licensed frequencies in this region . In particular, interferencies caused by long range tropical propagation made the situation worst and worst, asking for a long time monitoring and statistics.

We decided to build a remote access monitoring station in Port Moresby, to better understand what 's up in the region. The first problem and challenge was to find an Internet connection to meet the requirements of the remote access from Europe.
For the monitoring was decided to use a SDR able to record the amplitude of the signal on graphs for long time periods with a little usage of memory. The CIAO RADIO H101 was choosen, using two L101 active loops (thanks to Eng. Re Claudio, I1RFQ )

Some tests were done with a dipole, with a small increase (2dB) in the received signal inside the dipole frequency range. The loops were installed outdoor first, but no significant difference from indoor setup, due to very thin wooden walls of the building.
Tests of the setup were conducted from Europe in the full MW and SW range .
After my arrival in Romania, I made a lot of remote measurements.

The picture below is a snapshot taken in Romania on the spectrum around the AM commercial transmitter running in Port Moresby on 585 Khz , in the proximity of the the survey station.
Well....it was the first step. We intend to do the same setup in Sumatra (Indonesia).
During my activity in Papua New Guinea I had few time to make some HF HAM activities with my ICOM 706 MKIIG .
