FRSHolland - Summer Splash

Dear Bruno,

thank you very much for writing in for our first activity in 2026: Sunday May 31st with a repeat one week later on Sunday June 7.

The response didn’t disappoint us and that’s also because of your e-mail/snail mail to PO Box 2702 in Herten, the Netherlands.

Our May 31 broadcast followed the traditional festive December 2025 broadcast.
For our presenting team a welcome ‘Hello again’ on our beloved shortwave bands.

Frequencies this time were 7700//9300, 7400, 5842 and 3985 kHz. Band conditions weren’t excellent. It happened to be a rather unusual evening, mainly due to the funny band conditions. Result was large so-called “dead zones” (areas with no reception at all), as well as major differences in signal strength between the frequencies we were using.

Sometimes a signal would come booming in at a location where nothing had been heard earlier that evening. And there was also quite some static that evening.

Because we were active on several frequencies, there was usually at least one frequency that could be received well at most locations. Fortunately so.

The broadcast on 5842 kHz also caused some confusion. It turned out that the last two  shows transmitted on that frequency were not the new May programmes, but recordings from a year earlier! Therefore, on Sunday June 7 the complete broadcast was repeated on a 5880 kHz during the same times as the week before:

16:52–20:50 UTC / 18:52–22:50 CEST. No doubt reception was very stable (& good!) on June 7.

Thanks for your well written reception report dear Bruno. You are one of our faithful Italian listeners, thank you!

I hope you will be tuning our way when we will be on air next July/ August when the Free Radio Service Holland will return with its annual 3 week Summer Splash:

three weeks in a row themed programmes between 19:00- 21:00 UTC/ 21:00- 23:00 CEST.

Dates: Sunday July 26, August 2 & August 9

Free Radio Service Holland - Summer Splash 2023

Dear FRS Friends!

The time has finally come... After a (too...) long break, FRS-Holland will return to the airwaves next July/August.
A combination of circumstances forced us to be inactive for more than 6 months. We do regret this inactivity but:
with new energy we will soon return to the shortwave airwaves.
Good news: all familiar FRS voices will join: Jan, Mike, Bert, Dave & Peter V.

Important: our website frsholland.nl will be off line for a while because we switch to a new provider.
That implies we will build a new site starting in July/ August.
At the same time you cannot check our website for the latest details regarding the FRS Summer Splash.
In this mail we will supply the most important information, share it with any radio friend/ colleague!
We hope those who run a blog will share the info with their readers. Thanks in advance!!

FRS Summer Splash

Following last year's successful edition, we hope you will also enjoy the upcoming one.
Our schedule: 3 weeks in a row, a 2 hour broadcast.

Sunday July 23rd  18:59- 21:04 UTC/ 20:59- 23:04 CEST
Sunday July 30th  18:59- 21:04 UTC/ 20:59- 23:04 CEST
Sunday August 6th 18:59- 20:59 UTC/ 20:59- 23:04 CEST

All programmes will be thematic including various radio related items. Don't miss it!

Frequencies

Frequencies will be 6185 kHz & 7700//5800 (or 5790) kHz. Last year we experienced some difficulties with a suitable
5.8 MHz frequency, so it’s hard to give you the exact frequency. But it will be close to (or on) 5800 kHz.

Streams

Of course there will be streams as well in the week after the shortwave broadcasts.

FRS-Holland 1980-2020: 40 years on shortwave!

On Sunday November 8th FRS-Holland will celebrate 40 years of shortwave broadcasts. Following intensive preparations FRS is ready to offer an attractive programming that day.

This time we hope to surprise you...so we won't reveal all details as far as the programme content is concerned. Tune in and find out! Of course our history plays an important part.
A hint: the music we play is closely associated to several aspects of FRS' past 40 years. Listen and enjoy.
To be honest: this won't be a typical broadcast for a quick listen...there's so much interesting to listen to next Sunday....sit down behind your SW receiver & make sure you are part of it.
In order to make listening convenient, next Sunday's broadcast will be aired on different frequencies ánd different times. In addition there will be a number of streams starting a few days
after the shortwave broadcasts. Take a look at our schedule.
There will be a special Anniversary QSL card. Besides: listeners who send in a letter/ report to P.O.Box 2702 in Herten will receive our FRS 40 years Souvenir booklet containing many interesting articles. Please enclose 5 euro to cover P&P. For an extra 5 euro we offer a FRS 40 years CD. This CD contains programme extracts from past & present, FRS 40th Anniversary jingles (recently produced for next Sunday) and a few surprises.
We are looking forward to have your company next Sunday!
