Dopo Seabreeze AM sono riuscito ad ascoltare da Bocca di Magra un'altra emittente olandese a bassa potenza, sempre su 1395 kHz: Studio Denakker. Per circa un'ora è arrivata davvero a bomba! Ecco anche altri ascolti europei ed italian. Ciao, Giampiero

Ofcom ( l'autorità competente e regolatrice indipendente per le società di comunicazione nel Regno Unito) has announced this morning that it has awarded an AM community radio licence to Radio Caroline and 4 other groups. 

"Radio Caroline will broadcast a wide range of album music from the 1960s to the present day. It is for people aged 45+ in Suffolk and northern parts of Essex."

7 others groups have not been awarded a licence

We are pleased to announce that Ofcom have just informed us that our application for an AM licence has been approved and that a licence will be awarded. Further details will be sent to us by Ofcom in due course. Power levels and frequency are yet to be decided.

This is the end of – or a further step in – a process started by Bob Lawrence in 2010 and enthusiastically supported by Tracey Crouch MP. We thank them both and further thank the many other people who have helped along the way.

There are many preparations to be made and these may take some time. I am sure we will make further announcements in the future.

The basis of our application was that our traditional heartland was Essex and Suffolk, where the signal from our ships made first landfall and that we wished to entertain on AM, an audience that we have not been able to serve in this way since 1990.

We said that this audience may hear music radio of a style they remember and in some cases presented by the same people they remember.  That in essence is what we intend to do.

Onde medie alle 6 di mattina, da Manx radio alla Nigeria, via Izmir

Qualche ascolto alle 6 di mattina (intorno alle 5 UTC). Un po' di tutto tra Europa, Medio Oriente e Africa. E' tornata con un buon segnale la Nigeria su 1440 kHz. Così come la Turchia su 927 kHz. Poi un bell'annuncio di Manx Radio su 1368 kHz. E anche Voz Sperantei, dalla Romania dominante su 1485 kHz, dove di solito è coperta da Spagna e altro.

Onde Medie, anche le radio abboccano: Taiwan e Nigeria

Con pazienza prima o poi anche le radio abboccano. È anche il caso di due stazioni in onde medie a cui facevo la posta da un po'. Da quando sono rimaste libere dalle europee le frequenze di 1440 kHz e di 1557 kHz.

Dopo un po' di tentativi finalmente la mattina sono riuscito a ricevere su 1440, dalla Nigeria, Adamawa BC, tx Yola. Il segnale è stato discreto - buono solo una mattina. Ma anche questa è stata messa nel carniere. Non a caso arrivava, sempre da Yola, anche Radio Gotel su 917 kHz, nonostante il QRM della Slovenia sui canonici 918 kHz (ovviamente obbligatorio l'ascolto in LSB).

Taiwan

Invece su 1557 kHz, questa volta di pomeriggio, per due giorni di seguito sono riuscito a ricevere Taiwan, ovvero RTI I Love Music, da Kouhu, nel sud ovest dell'isola di Taiwan, controllata in entrambi i casi con il Web streaming. Segnale buono, ma solo per pochi minuti. Poi il fading l'ha fatta sparire sotto le onde radio in arrivo dal Regno Unito. In Italia questa emittente era già stata ascoltata da diversi DXer più bravi di me, ma io ho dovuto attendere che i francesi se ne andassero.

Segnalo su 1377 kHz Radio Free Africa dalla Tanzania, con segnali davvero buoni

WFME New York

Invece su 1560 kHz da qualche tempo arriva spesso bene Family Radio, WFME, da New York. Spesso è l'unica ad arrivare non solo dagli USA ma anche dalla sua zona. Misteri della propagazione!

Onde medie: note, curiosità e ascolti

La chiusura di molte stazioni europee, di cui abbiamo già detto, ha aperto nuove potenzialità per il radioascolto in onde medie. In effetti nel complesso la banda 531-1700 kHz è più pulita e quindi possiamo sfruttare di più la propagazione. Una signora veramente dispettosa, ma che proprio per questo rende divertente l'hobby della radio.

Anche in onde medie le cose possono cambiare da un giorno all'altro, oltre che da una stagione all'altra. E pure negli anni, naturalmente. Ad esempio fino a due tre anni fa a Bocca di Magra, la mia postazione preferita, era facile ascoltare (quasi tutte le notti) l'Argentina. In particolare Radio del Plata su 1030 kHz, ma non solo. Negli ultimi due anni invece è diventata una rarità. Adesso ad arrivare davvero spesso, magari debole ma apprezzabile, c'è Q'hubo Radio da Bogotà, Colombia.

Dagli Stati Uniti ultimamente faccio fatica a ricevere WMEX New York su 1510, che una volta era un faro insieme a WFED da Washington, anche lei ora più rara. Invece arriva spessissimo WUNR (in spagnolo)  e da quando ha chiuso la Francia su 1557 WFME su 1560 da New York.

In Europa la parte del leone, in quanto a numero di radio in onde medie, la fa la Spagna. Il gioco divertente è quello di riuscire ad ascoltare le emittenti quando si staccano dalla catena nazionale per trasmettere i programmi locali o regionali. Non occorrono ricevitori speciali, anche un buon portatile può offrire grandi soddisfazioni. La ferrite permette di sfruttare la direzionalità per "centrare" meglio il segnale che ci interessa, eliminando o attenuando quello interferente. Poi lasciamo fare alla propagazione. Un giorno, ad esempio su 1224 kHz, arriva la COPE Palma dalle Baleari e il giorno dopo la COPE da Huelva. L'importante è avere pazienza e un po' di costanza.

Molti i segnali che possono arrivare dal Medio Oriente, in attesa di ascoltare India, Corea, Cina... Tante le stazioni iraniane, che hanno anche annunci locali. Ne ho registrato uno perfetto e spettacolare su 1278 kHz: Radio Kermanshah, Iran, dove la Francia non c'è più. Inoltre si possono ricevere diverse stazioni dall'Africa, anche da Tanzania, Etiopia, Nigeria. A seconda della propagazione.

Ma non dimentichiamo la nostra vecchia Europa, non c'è solo la penisola iberica. Ci sono tante emittenti che possono arrivare, anche con potenze al di sotto del kw. Dal Regno Unito alla Grecia, dall'Italia in effervescenza alla Romania, dove non c'è solo Radio Actualitate. Ad esempio su 1530 ogni tanto, abbastanza raramente, compare anche Radio Costanza. E dalla Grecia ecco Radio 322, con tanto di bell'annuncio.

Onde Medie, il gioco si fa più divertente

La desertificazione delle onde medie in Europa può non rallegrarci ma, visto che non ci possiamo fare nulla, cerchiamo di coglierne l'aspetto positivo, almeno dal punto di vista del nostro hobby. Si aprono infatti nuovi spazi per la ricezione di radio lontane. Ad esempio sui 675 kHz lasciati liberi dall'abbattimento dell'antenna di Lopik (di cui su questo blog abbiamo visto il video) e ancor prima dalla chiusura dell'emittente libica, adesso si può ricevere il Qatar e l'Iran.

Inoltre il minore QRM notturno permette di sfruttare meglio i canali nord e sud americani (ogni 10 kHz)

Ma anche sul fronte europeo però restano molte opportunità. Stanno sparendo molte stazioni potenti ma ne restano molte di potenza più bassa, tipo 1 kw o meno. Ad esempio si possono ricevere stazioni inglesi con anche solo 250 w. E per un po' resteranno le spagnole con i loro programmi locali, che rappresentano una simpatica e divertente sfida: sulla stessa frequenza ce ne sono diverse e bisogna quindi giocare di loop e di astuzia propagativa... E ci sono le italiane.

E' quindi tornato il momento di rispolverare i vecchi loop o di provare a costruirne di nuovi più sofisticati. Oppure dare un occhio al mercato. Da anni uso con soddisfazione i loop della Wellbrook che ritengo molto validi. Ma ce ne sono di tanti tipi e di diverso costo.

Le onde medie in genere sono più faticose delle onde corte e richiedono più pazienza, ma il divertimento è garantito. Certo una radio brasiliana o canadese può arrivare bene per 10 minuti o meno e poi sparire per magari ritornare dopo 20 o forse no. Identificarle quindi non è facile. Ma la sfida rende gustoso l'ascolto. Il registratore (audio o IF nel caso degli SDR) è d'obbligo.

Ecco un piccolo log esemplificativo che ho fatto per rendere l'idea di questo mio ragionamento sulle onde medie. Diciamo che stanno sparendo le querce ma il deserto non è proprio così deserto. E, tanto per dirne una, questo log non considera le tante locali spagnole o le piccole inglesi.
